My dad as dad
Someone asked me today about my views on my dad and his work...
After having posted my last blog, I received a request today asking for my insight on my dad and his music. I'll address it by saying that I love him with all my heart and I feel so lucky to be his daughter. I have always loved his music and am incredibly proud of all he has done. However, I'd really prefer to discuss topics other than my dad and what he has done. I do realize that many people are interested in my view of him but to me he has always been and always will be my dad. He is a huge influence in my life but in this case (my website and my goal/purpose for it), his career and successes are not the focus of what I would like to discuss. This is my "thing" and I'd really like to maintain my original goal. My blog's "open forum" format is directed at addressing and discussing topics, issues, problems, etc... that everyone can contribute to. Thank you for your appreciation and acknowledgement of my dad's work but I really would like to steer away from talking about his career in detail. I hope you understand and stay interested in what I have to say regardless :)

You know Lily, I went back and re-read your introduction blog,
(mission statement sotospeak)...wrote back in march.
and I like the fact that you want to have a more positive focus on celebrities and or people in the entertainment bussiness, and things of deeper interests, rather than another look for the dirt and exspose the worse and or their problems...I'm not into that stuff and tire of it as well in our media and the hounding of celebrities, this is certainly out of hand....
although on the other hand ...I suppose some of that kinda stuff brings some of those idols (famous people)down to earth like level.. to more of a real life like being, when we hear or see them with problems or regular life like stuff that many people deal with...
regular like people see that being rich and famous even talented is not a beallendall or gurantee all is well or perfect in ones life..
I think that can be a pitfall in our current culture, and people get lost sometimes in a wrong way..forgetting better virtues and values..
..humans idolising, I find that an interesting phenominum (sp?) as well,
we attribute power and become awestruck with it, excited by glorifying or being a star!!..it's apart of being human..and natural interests too..although it gets out of hand...
as I get older the less I care about that stuff and that excitement...not to say I don't have any interest in famous people ..but it's not a big drive for me...
I do though like the arts, entertainment, music, value talent , but still view things from different perspectives in a bigger world/life/meaning. ( I will watch certain things on t.v. here and there pertaining to stars celebrities ect.)...but as I said less and less interest as I get older....I'd rather see, hear or enjoy the work that artists do...simply for that pleasure.
yes I admitted to writing your father when I was then in my
mid-twenties...but it was more of a " one off " for me, about the music and how it struck me and something in particular to him for me, like no other..
and as I said I found some theraputic feelings or outlet in writing at that time...life was changeing for me and I was searching, feeling uneasy, a little insecure in ways and just not finding more of a peace for me, along with the fact my first husband had died (tragically infront of me) ..I was a single parent and as I said, as life was unfolding for me...I was drawn to your fathers music and caught up in a habit of writing periodically over the years,,(some more some less)
but I was not, nor did I really, really, idolized idolized your dad.. I'm not that kinda fan..just not that type..yes, I thought alot of things were great, but still, where I was at was just a litle different.

anyway, otherwise back to your mission statement..your outline in first blog.
I'm a little confused as to what your meaning or direction is exactly..(little hazy around the edges) I undestand you want a more positive and interest point in interviewing and or shedding a different light upon these people in the entertainment business...and from a younger persons image as yourself in a positive light with these celebrities..
but I was alittle lost on the generation gap thing, I mean I realise what generation gap means..and it will always always exist to one degree or the other in life...but what exactly or by example do you think is such a problem or we need to solve in regards to the entertainment world/celebrities that us older folks need or younger people to bridge the gap??
..personally, speaking of generation gap, I bring to mind, for example I have an uncle that is in his 60's but still wears his hair like the style when he was in the 1950's or early 1960's (and lots of hairspary or goop to hold in place) and then unfortunatly he tried sending his 10 yearold son to school like that (same hairstyle)in the 1980's and we thought that was a problem!!(I got some crazy people in my family)
...I remember my daughter as a teenager in the 1980"s who told me quite seriously she wished her mother was Madonna, and I just didn't measure up! Thank God now she is older and she actually has more of a distain for Madonna.. and does not idolize her at all...
but Bridget my 28yrold still is more into modern culture, lives a more worldly life (and likes the hollywood gossip stuff too)...my daughter Heidi 21yrold is the opposite, she would be much more happier living in the Victorian times
(slight egzageration)and does not like the state of our world and behavoirs of people or pop culture and alot of what is in our modern times..she likes things much more wholesome oldfashion and moralistic.

but back to your goal here Lily with your website..it appears your meshing different ideas and goals ..which is fine too as to add more dimention here..
but in that might cause a little crossroads in finding direction....it's kinda entertaiment world, celebrities ,bridgeing a generation gap, a glimpse into your life, feelings and a view to your world (which is kool)
and a little dear Abby, sotospeak(which is endearing that you want to care , be down to earth, have other people share and care for one another, and talk about their life as well, or even as you say any topic in life or what may be happening in the world...and I understand and think it's great..that your way of helping a generation gap in particulary here,is to say this is not a place just for the young like yourself..and you invite any age to participate, or delve into this problem!(but still a little might get lost along the way)
you know to harken back to that..one of the funny things about me and my daughters...is their mother, myself, listens to alot more of the currant music..I'm certainly more of a hardrock music lover and I listen more to the alternative music then they do..but I like much more diversity when it comes to music anyway, cuz I will listen to many genres and even music that goes back years and years ....
well, once again goodluck...all is good expierence for you .. your young and resiliant, you will find your way... life can take it twists and turns and build upon itself...
So Lily have family time now, enjoy yourself too and what you like..relax a little too ! (our highlight here recently where I live, we just had a spectacular lightning and thunder storm ( this person said to me, they thought Jesus was coming!! lol)that lasted hours upon hours and it was said there was atleast a thousand lightning strikes..topped off by a pressure water pounding rainstorm (cleaned my car ! )
and I will look forward from time to time to revisit, check in and see what's new!
Peace-out ! heehee I guess that's gettin a little passe' now.
yours truly, maryann

Hi Lily!
OMG! I was almost in tears--clutching my invisible pearls--as I read your blog posting about our day in lovely Fullerton.
Let me now praise you: You are by far, not only, one of the prettiest girls I have ever worked with, but so professional! I loved every minute of it. You were sweet, gracious, classy and intelligent. The "quadruple threat"! The cherry on the cake was our conversation about Chanel and how much you knew about the art of Haute Couture--there are fashion design students about to graduate that don't even know half as much as you (and I should know, I teach them!).
I really hope we get to work again--or at least, have you come by my studio and play Dress Up!!!
A big kiss and hugs,
with much admiration,
Nick

That was so refreshing to read.. (blog: march 27th).. I believe it to be completely true.. I make sure to keep an active conversation going with my folks. It's amazing how easy it is to bridge that 'huge-little' gap between our generations if you genuinely take the time to try..

I've had a few different occasions where friends and I would end up discussing how our current 'day-in-age' lacks true role models.. Who do we admire these days? Just got me thinking for awhile..

You have such a wonderful soul, Lily. This is an amazing idea and my hope is that everyone will realize what a gift this blog really is.. You have created a safe and intelligent environment for any generation to speak its truthful mind.. And that, IS worth writing for..

Comment:
Lily Collins is studying broadcast journalism at USC, is set to appear in interstitial programming spots airing throughout the day and night on Nickelodeon, reporting from the sets of Nick series, movie premieres, awards shows, concerts and other celebrity events. She also will host daily 30-second updates centered on current music, movie, fashion and celebrity news and join current host J Boogie to contribute reports to the weekend TEENick block.

This marks the first time that Nickelodeon has inked a deal for a roving entertainment correspondent.

"Lily is a natural in front of the camera," Nickelodeon executive vp talent Paula Kaplan said. "She can think on her feet and is comfortable interviewing a wide range of people. As a rising young star herself, she's totally plugged into the latest entertainment and pop culture trends."
